It was always going to be marginal today but SE being dead onshore is a
nice cruising direction for Felixstowe for so I decided to take a chance
and went to the dip. I rigged big and managed to get off the beach despite
the high tide, light winds and a bit of a shore dump:( I headed out towards
Bawdsey for a short way then tacked and made it all the way to the River
Orwell in one go but sadly I was way under! There was just enough to hook
in but it was slow going sailing parallel to the beach. I turned just short
of the shipping channel in the Orwell and sailed back turning around the
green bouy in the River Deben. I then went back to the van for a snack,
waited for high water to pass hoping the wind would fill in, it didn’t so
I packed up – shame the wind didn’t play ball as it would have been fun
cruising up and down the coast.
Might get a sail at Bradfield tomorrow with Neil Hurrell but forecast not
great:(
PS - this is my 50th session for the year, much better than last year when
I only went 53 times in total!
